What determines the life of a road is not the thickness of the final layer laid on top, but whether the layers beneath it were built in the right order, at the right compaction ratio and with the right drainage. In road works ACARTEK manages the entire chain of layers, from formation level to the wearing course, under one responsibility.
Scope
- Formation and sub-base: cut-and-fill balance, layer-by-layer spreading and compaction, bearing capacity verified by Proctor and plate load testing.
- Plant-mix base: laying and rolling of material with a grading that meets the specification, at optimum moisture content.
- Hot-mix asphalt: binder and wearing courses laid by paver, with temperature monitoring and rolling to the compaction programme.
- Surface dressing: an economical and rapid solution for low-traffic routes; prime coat and aggregate spreading.
- Concrete pavement: a long-life alternative for heavy vehicle traffic and roads inside industrial zones.
- Junction and median works: geometric improvement, kerb and footway construction, horizontal and vertical signing.
Quality control
Compaction ratio, layer thickness and level are checked on every layer; the results are recorded in the works programme and submitted to the client authority with the progress payment file. Mix design and site testing prior to laying are documented with independent laboratory reports.
