Drainage and crossing structures are the points on a route that carry the most load and forgive the least. If a culvert section is undersized, the road is lost in the first heavy rainfall; if the drainage behind a retaining wall is not working, water pressure behind it will overturn the wall. ACARTEK treats these structures together with their hydraulic and structural calculations.
Scope
- Reinforced concrete box and pipe culverts: section verification against catchment flow, foundation improvement, wing wall and apron construction.
- Retaining and revetment walls: cantilever, gravity and counterfort types; we do not build a wall without drainage behind it.
- Bridges and overpasses: pile and foundation works, columns and head beams, precast beam erection, deck concrete.
- Stone and slope protection structures: rock fill, revetment and erosion control works.
Concrete and reinforcement discipline
Reinforcement layout is checked against the design and photographed before pouring; spacers are used throughout. Concrete is supplied from a ready-mix plant to the specified class, delivery notes are filed and samples are taken. Formwork is not struck before the curing period is complete — in structural works, haste cannot be corrected afterwards.
